From the 5th of May, at Telecom Italia Future Centre fo Venice, is going to take place the event Stories from the Brand New World, lectures on the books that mostly contributed to the visions and social imagery of the future. The event is organized by the Telecom Italia Future Centre within the Progetto Italia spa and Mediasfera society activities’ program.
The meetings, addressed equally to those who have never read those books, to those who have a vague memory of them and also for those who believe to deeply know them, are aimed at conveying or recalling such stories, in an enjoyable way, in order to encourage the participation in the following debate. In attempting that, the first part of the meeting, headed by Peppino Ortoleva, professor of Media History at the University of Turin, will be devoted to talk about the book, with the help of interpretative readings and images, that will be each time document, link, enigma. During the second part of the meeting, a lead role will be taken not only by the book, but mainly by the questions that it still poses to us. A scholar will assume the task of having a dialogue with the book expressing the enduring richness of its point of view, then another scholar will try to resume the leading thread of the book’s profecy in order to take a glance at the future under the light of what has happened meanwhile.
The 11th of May meeting will be dedicated to the book The Time Machine from H. G. Wells, speakers will be Franco Carlini, journalist, and Massimiano Bucchi, professor of Sociology of Science.
