Youngsters’ interest in science

The book Participation, Retention and Gender Equity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Higher Education, edited by Ellen K. Henriksen, Justin Dillon and Jim Ryder, will be published by Springer in 2013. The book collects results from European project IRIS and contains an essay by Giuseppe Pellegrini and Chiara Segafredo.

IRIS is the acronym for Interest and Recruitment In Science. The main objective of this project is to develop more knowledge and recommendations informed by evidence on how young people, and girls in particular, may be attracted to, and retained in, STM higher education. Observa, the Italian partner of the project, collected the viewpoints expressed by students in a representative sample of 2667 Italian students.
