<\/a>\"\"<\/a>What do comics and gardening have in common? What connects rock music and the philosophy of love? The design of everyday objects and the language of science?<\/em><\/p>\n

Science, Design, Gardening and Love: from April 16th to 19th, 2010 in the Palladian Villa Caldogno, near Vicenza, within the festival A Regola d\u2019Arte. Rediscovering the pleasure of practical knowledge among science, technology and culture<\/strong> promoted by Observa \u2013 Science in Society and the Municipality of Caldogno. The central theme is the rediscover of \u201cknowledge\u201d and \u201ccrafting\u201d, between culture and practical abilities.<\/p>\n

Debates innovation and development are at risk of remaining abstract, leaving out the dimension bridging \u201cknowledge\u201d and \u201ccrafting\u201d, culture and practical skills. This theme is particularly central for the area of Veneto and its rich tradition of first class practical knowledge embodied in worldwide famous artifacts. It is sufficient just to mention how precious it was, for a scientist like Galileo, to be able to draw from the outstanding practical experience of the \u201cperitissimi artefici\u201d (the most expert craftsmen\u201d \u2013 like he called them) of Venice Arsenal.<\/p>\n

The pleasure connected with a well crafted object (\u201cA Regola d\u2019Arte\u201d), as anybody who has been engaged in a manually skilled activity knows, is a source of gratification that goes beyond monetary reward as such.<\/p>\n

Scientists, designer, philosophers, comic book authors, musicians and writers will be called upon to discuss<\/strong> these issues with the public; concerts<\/strong>, dance<\/strong> and films<\/strong> will animate Villa Caldogno during the evenings; open workshops<\/strong> will offer to children and adults the opportunity to explore the pleasures of \u2018well crafting\u2019 things under the guidance of leading masters; cocoa and pastry tasting<\/strong> will also be among the proposed activities.<\/p>\n

Among the guests:<\/strong> the physicist and cognitive scientist Massimo Piattelli Palmarini<\/strong> and the designer Paolo Ulian<\/strong><\/a>, the writer and specialist gardens Pia Pera<\/strong> and Silver<\/strong> creator of Lupo Alberto, Umberto Curi<\/strong> historian of philosophy and the songwriter Cristina Don\u00e0.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

In occasion of the festival the exhibition Il Vivaio a Regola d\u2019Arte: cataloghi e medaglie tra \u2018800 e \u2018900<\/strong>, curated by Elena Macellari and Federico Maniero, will open on April 15th at 6.00 p.m.<\/strong>, with a dialogue about botanical collection, Biblioteca Internazionale La Vigna<\/strong><\/a>, Contr\u00e0 Porta Santa Croce 3, Vicenza. The exhibition will be open until May 14 in the opening hours of the library.<\/p>\n

<\/a>THE PLACE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Villa Caldogno (1565)<\/strong>, attributed to Andrea Palladio, perhaps represents the best example in the Vicenza area for the restyling and refurbishing of a classical Venetian Villa. An impressive intervention directed by Caldogno\u2019s Council in collaboration with Institutions, Public Authorities and private sponsors, during the last decade, led to the complete architectural refurbishing of the Villa and to the restoration of the stunning internal frescos, attributed to Giovanni Antonio Fasolo, Giovanni Battista Zelotti and Giulio Carpioni. The Villa\u2019s complex, with the surrounding park and the Annexes, hosts the cultural formation circle C4 \u2013 Centre for Contemporary Culture Caldogno.<\/p>\n

By car<\/span>:<\/p>\n

A4 exit – Vicenza Ovest, follow the signs for Schio-Thiene and take the state road. About three kilometres before Vicenza, in Motta di Costabissara, at the crossroads to Schio-Thiene, turn right in direction Caldogno and follow the signs for Villa Caldogno and town centre. look at the map.<\/p>\n

By public transport<\/span>:<\/p>\n

da from Piazza Matteotti, in Vicenza\u2019s town centre, take the number 9 bus, direction Caldogno. Get off in Caldogno, Piazza della Chiesa. The Villa\u2019s area is just off the main Piazza.<\/p>\n
