{"id":33100,"date":"2008-06-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.observa.it\/pcst-10-bridges-to-the-future\/"},"modified":"2024-05-07T09:41:08","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T09:41:08","slug":"pcst-10-bridges-to-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.observa.it\/en\/pcst-10-bridges-to-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"PCST 10 &#8211; Bridges to the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.observa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/26062008_PCST10_big.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6718 alignright\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" title=\"26062008_PCST10_big\" src=\"https:\/\/www.observa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/26062008_PCST10_big.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a>400 delegates, 27 seminars, 350 presentations (among which some refers to Observa\u2019s researches): at the 10th <strong>PCST<\/strong> (Public Communication of Science and Technology) conference, held <strong>from 23th to 27th June<\/strong> 2008 science communicators, researchers, science writers, press officers, and librarians from all over the world are meeting and taking part in a playful but serious discussion about how to develop science communication.<\/p>\n<p>The conference is titled <strong>Bridges to the future<\/strong>, which is well suited to the locations choosen, <strong>Malmoe, Copenhagen and Lund<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Emerging issues in science and society are the core of the programme, and several sessions are devoted to <strong>climate change<\/strong> and <strong>communicating risks<\/strong>. One session, &#8220;<strong>Medical messages in the media<\/strong> &#8211; reliable information or science for sale?&#8221; deals with the difficulties medical journalists have to maintain their integrity and independence while under pressure from &#8220;Big Pharma&#8221; and other pressure groups.<\/p>\n<p>The participation of representatives from 19 countries. will inspire much discussion about the impact of <strong>local culture<\/strong> and context on science coverage, for example a comparative analysis between North American and French coverage of climate change. Other sessions will be devoted to <strong>science journalism training<\/strong> in developing countries with participation from South Africa and Australia, and science on radio and TV in different cultural environments.<\/p>\n<p>Another issue concerns the development of <strong>new channels<\/strong>, media and arenas in order to strengthen the dialogue between the research community and surrounding society. Visualization, virtual events and how to use <strong>web 2.0<\/strong> are examples of seminars dealing with interactive technology to enhance public involvement.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will be somewhat different, serious but at the same time playful.
